{"id":624,"date":"2025-06-18T21:18:35","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T21:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/the-revolutionised-self.com\/?p=624"},"modified":"2025-06-19T19:39:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-19T19:39:20","slug":"fast-lane-full-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the-revolutionised-self.com\/?p=624","title":{"rendered":"Fast lane, full stop."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">Most mornings, I leave home with just enough time to get to work.<br>No margin, no wiggle room\u2014just calculated urgency.<br>I know exactly how long the drive takes, when and where the traffic peaks, and how to shave a minute or two off if I need to. <br>There\u2019s no time to waste.<br>Or so I tell myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">On that stretch of road, I know the precise spots the speed van lurks and even the times it is likely to be there. After prolonged observation, I&#8217;m convinced it is the one van at the two spots!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It had become a rhythm of its own\u2014cutting it close, moving with purpose, feeling like I was in control.<br>Then came the morning I met three ambulances on the road.<br>All headed the opposite way, lights flashing, sirens piercing.<br>I remember thinking, <em>Something serious must have happened.<\/em>   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"nfd-wb-animate nfd-wb-fade-in-top-short nfd-delay-50\">And I prayed, for my children, for my young one going to school and for all others. <br>But I kept driving.<br>I was late. I had work to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It wasn\u2019t until that evening that I found out what had happened.<br>A road traffic accident.<br>A fatal one. <br>Just a few miles from where I\u2019d passed.<br>I had driven away from the chaos, unaware that a life had just slipped away behind me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">That knowledge landed heavy.<br>And strangely, it made me feel like I\u2019d been rushing past more than just flashing lights.<br>I\u2019d been rushing past life itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">What was I racing toward anyway?<br>What was I carrying that couldn\u2019t wait to be dropped?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">That day, the road held more than traffic.<br>It held a mirror.<br>And in it, I saw myself: always in motion, always a little ahead of now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"flachback\" class=\"\">But I also saw something bigger.<br><strong>We\u2019re all in a race.<\/strong><br>Different tracks, different shoes\u2014but most of us are running.<br>Running to achieve.<br>To prove.<br>To arrive.<br>To stay relevant.<br>To not be left behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We race through our mornings, our meals, our milestones.<br>We check things off, stack accomplishments, say \u201cyes\u201d out of obligation, to feel present, scroll while we walk, talk while we think, exist while we strive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We call it ambition. Or purpose. Or being productive.<br>But sometimes, it\u2019s just noise.<br>Motion for motion\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It wasn\u2019t guilt that filled me. It was clarity.<br>Because speed is seductive. It makes you feel important.<br>But what it often steals is presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">That evening, I didn\u2019t tick off my to-do list.<br>I sat. I breathed. I listened to my children fill me in with details (word on the school yard) of the accident and talk about their day with the kind of attention that doesn\u2019t multitask.<br>And the world didn\u2019t collapse.<br>It waited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As a nurse, I\u2019m trained to respond\u2014to move quickly, to act.<br>As a mother, I\u2019m always in motion\u2014a super woman.<br>As a quiet leader, I often feel the pull to stay ahead, to keep everything (and everyone) going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">But that day reminded me:<br>It\u2019s not always about doing more.<br>Sometimes, the deepest form of care\u2014for others, for myself\u2014is found in slowing down.<br>In being wholly present.<br>In listening before leaping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Slowing down isn\u2019t weakness. It\u2019s wisdom.<br>It\u2019s the holy hush between moments\u2014the space where life, real life, waits to be felt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And maybe that\u2019s what we\u2019re missing in this grand race.<br>Not success. Not meaning. Not drive.<br>But rhythm.<br>Stillness.<br>Breath.<br>Room enough to ask ourselves:<br><em>Why am I running? Who told me I had to?
